Ifugao, Pagadian City conducting disaster preparedness activities

On September 1, the provincial government of Ifuagao opened its Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Operation Center in its capital town, Lagawe. According to Governor Eugene Balitang, the members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) “will come up with disaster preparedness standards, create disaster management plans, and direct disaster management operations” (PIA, Sept. 3).

Meanwhile, Pagadian City in Zamboanga Del Sur is conducting a three-day seminar/workshop on Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction Management (CBDRRM). The workshop, which started Thursday and will end Sept. 4 aims to strengthen and and equip people in the barangays to “effectively respond in times of disasters.”

OCD Regional Director Adriano B. Fuego said that all barangay chair and barangay council members participated in the said workshop. Fuego said, “the barangays are the first line of defense against any disaster (natural or man-made) that may occur in a certain place” (PIA, Sept. 2).
