“Megi” expected to enter PAR tonight

A Tropical Storm with international name “Megi” is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday and make landfall on Monday afternoon. When “Megi” enters PAR, the weather disturbance will be given local name “Juan.”
As of 11:00 am today, “Megi” is over Marianas island at estimated 1,300 km east of Southern Luzon moving west northwest at 20 kph. According to Pagasa, it is expected to enter PAR tomorrow between 12 mn and 2 a.m. “Megi” is expected to bring “Ondoy”-like rains and to hit Cagayan Valley.
News source says the storm will gain strength that it may reach a “super typhoon” strength within 24 to 48 hours.
The weather bureau is advising the public and the local disaster risk reduction managers to prepare and take precautionary measures. Also, “fishermen are advised not to venture over the eastern and northern coasts of Luzon” while, “farmers are advised to monitor weather updates.”
Pagasa also warns travelers not to travel starting Sunday morning, particularly in landslide prone areas of Northern and Eastern Luzon.
Meanwhile, a low pressure area (LPA) is spotted 350 kilometers east of Borongan, Eastern Samar and is embedded within intertropical convergence zone. The LPA will bring rains over Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, while the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.
