Situation Report No. 2 on Typhoon Juan

Situation Overview

As of 1 PM today, Typhoon “Juan” is 220 kms west northwest of Dagupan City (16.5° N, 118.7°E). It is expected to move quasi-stationary for the next 12 hours due to a high pressure area hindering its exit. “Juan” is expected to gradually move west northwest and seen to move out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility later tonight or early Wednesday.

“Juan” has maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph. Eye of the typhoon is off-land Philippines, what brings rain is the tail-end of the storm.

Public Storm Warning Signals on other places are lowered. Signal no. 2 is still up on Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales while signal no. 1 is over Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mt.Province, Ifugao, Benguet, N. Vizcaya, N. Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Bataan, Bulacan, Cavite, Lubang Is. and Metro Manila

Casualties

A total of 10 cases of death were reported and 19 injuries due to typhoon.

Report says four people were killed Monday night in Pangasinan, three from collapsed structure, and on by lightning. The three were identified as Ana Vidal, 29, her daughter EJ, 4, and son Ogie, 2. The 33-year-old Reddy Espinosa, a farmer, died when hit by lightning (Inquirer.net).

Another one died in Nueva Ecija, identified as Roberto Alcaybar, 60, who drowned on Monday while crossing a river in Brgy. Punacan in Carrangalan town.

Also, three people drowned in storm surge in Maconacon, Isabela.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and management Committee on the other hand, reported three other cases of death in Northern Luzon. “They were identified as Vicente Decena, 53, who reportedly died after drowning in the Cagayan River; Aileen Reseicio, 20, who died after a tree fell on their house in Rizal town, Kalinga province and; Andres Realina who was pinned down by a fallen tree in Irisan, Baguio City” (Inquirer.net)

Affected Population

A total of 1,689 families or 7,951 individuals from 57 barangays in 27 municipalities and 1 city in from 8 provinces from Regions I, II, III, and CAR were affected by typhoon “Juan.”

Stranded Passengers

In the latest report of the Philippine Coast Guard, a total of 1,248 passengers. In Manila, there are 1,143 stranded passengers, 6 in Coast Guard Station- Southern Tagalog San Jose, 48 in Puerto Real, Quezon, and 51 in Aparri.

Call for Action

As of the mean time, the Corporate Network for Disaster Response is not calling for appeal to help victims of typhoon “Juan” because the affected local government units and concerned government agencies expressed that they can still provide for the affected families.
