“UN cites Albay as Disaster Risk Reduction model”

In the marking of “International Day of Disaster Reduction” in Incheon, South Korea, United Nations General Ban Ki-moon cited Albay as having one of the best practices in disaster risk reduction together with Hyogo Prefecture in Japan, Bangkok, Bonn, Mexico City, and Mumbai.

Ban “cited Albay for its disaster risk reduction program that attained for the province a ‘zero casualty’ goal in times of calamities either it be volcanic eruption, typhoons, landslides, floods and storm surges” (PNA).

This year’s theme of the Disaster Reduction Day is “Making Cities Resilient: My City is Getting Ready.”
