Sorsogon town now under state of calamity

Due to series of ash ejections and threat of pyroclastic flows in its rivers, the municipal council of Irosin has approved the declaration of state of calamity over the town. Meanwhile, news report says the municipal health unit of Irosin has recorded 187 cases of acute respiratory disorders, gastrointestinal diseases and acute gastroentiritis being treated by health personnel.
On Sunday morning, Mt. Bulusan ejected an ash column into the sky that reached 2 kilometers and drifted southwest to municipalities of Irosin (with up to 3mm thick ash), Bulan (2mm), and Magallanes (with traces of ash).

New ash explosion as gov’t, rebels OK ceasefire

In an email to local media on Wednesday, the communist rebels declared ceasefire, which took effect on Monday, against government troops in the six towns within 10 kilometer radius around Mt. Bulusan. According to news, the ceasefire is to hasten relief operations and is expected to continue until the volcano normalizes.
The Philippine Army accepted the declaration saying that they can fast-track evacuation and delivery of relief goods without worrying about surprise attacks by NPA.
The ceasefire covers some villages in the municipalities of Juban, Irosin, Gubat, Barcelona, Casiguran and Bulusan.
At 1:22 PM, Wednesday, Mt. Bulusan ejected an ash column about 1000 meters and it drifted southwest. Meanwhile, Phivolcs said on its morning bulletin that there were no earthquakes detected by the seismic network around the volcano.

Situation Report on Bulusan

In the latest NDRRMC situation report, a total of 2,827 families or 14,126 individuals were now affected by volcanic activites of Bulusan. Also, one person is reported dead due to asthma. The casualty is identified as Rolando Purino, 28, of Cogon, Irosin.
To date, five evacuation centers are still open serving 168 families (114 in Juban and 54 in Irosin). According to NDRRMC, these evacuees only come to the evacuation sites during night and they return home by day for their livelihood.
NDRRMC also reported an estimated PhP483,242.83-worth of assistance (food and non-food items) by DSWD, government and non-government organizations, DOH, and local government units.
