EARTHQUAKE

A 5.7 magnitude earthquake hit the town of Anahawan in Southern Leyte on 25 August. Mayor Roberto Loquinte placed the worth of damages to infrastructure at Php10 million.

Mayor Loquinte declared a state of calamity due to damages in the water system and other infrastructures — pipelines were broken while several houses made of light materials were destroyed. The water connections have been restored but the water running through the pipelines remains not potable.

Elfledo Hernandez, executive assistant of the Southern Leyte Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC), said that other towns also suffered from the said earthquake.
