CNDR Update and Appeal for Floods and Landslides Victims in St. Bernard (Jan. 20)

CNDR would like to express its sincerest gratitude to its members and partners who have been supportive of its emergency response operation in St. Bernard, Southern Leyte. Below is a summary of the assistance mobilized by CNDR for flashflood victims in St. Bernard, and assistance provided by CNDR members in its own initiative, as of Jan. 19:

Please note that on January 15, Saturday, the municipal government issued an advisory to the evacuees of some 13 barangays to return to their homes. But due to current weather condition in St. Bernard, the municipal government started the re-evacuation of families from 19 barangays. As of yesterday, 10 p.m., the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) of St. Bernard started the re-evacuation of some 1,017 families.  The evacuees are temporarily housed in 14 evacuation areas. Immediate needs are rice/food items or cash to purchase other food items, basic school supplies such as paper and pencils for Brgy. Malinao students, mosquito nets, detergent and/or bath soaps, medicines - cough preparation; paracetamol (tablet, syrup, drops); vitamins (syrup and capsule); assorted antibiotics (drops, capsule, syrup/suspension), Blood lancets, capillary tubes (sodium heparinised), Slides, NSS (1 liter), and portalets.

CNDR Secretariat staff is scheduled to visit Saint Bernard tomorrow morning to assist the field staff in the conduct of Damage Needs and Capacities Assessment (DNCA), as well as supervise and document the emergency response operations being conducted by CNDR and its member companies.
