ASCEND

Project implementors of ASCEND

Advancing Safer Communities and Environments against Disaster (ASCEND) is a project which aims to further increase resiliency of and reduce vulnerability of communities, schools, and local government units in high-risk areas. ASCEND is a result of merging the two previous projects of Christian Aid and CARE Nederland: “Building Disaster Resilient Small Island Communities Project” (BDRSIP) and “Strengthening Assets and Capacities of Communities and Local Governments for Resilience to Disaster” (ACCORD Projects 1 &2), respectively.

The ASCEND project will be implemented on 11 municipalities in Jomalig, Quezon; Marinduque; Rapu-Rapu, Albay; Calabanga, Camrines Sur; St. Bernard, Southern Leyte; and Maragusan, Compostela Valley with funding from the European Commission – Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO) department.

The project will run from  June 15, 2010 to October 14, 2011. Coastal Community Resources and Livelihoods Development, Inc. (Coastal Core), Social Action Center (SAC) – Northern Quezon, Marinduque Council for Environmental Concerns (MaCEC), Assistance and Cooperation for Community Resilience and Development Inc. (ACCORD Inc.), Corporate Network for Disaster Response (CNDR), and the Agri-Aqua Development Coalition-Mindanao (AADC) will be the local implementing partners of Christian Aid and CARE NL in the ASCEND Project.

CNDR will handle the implementation of the project in Calabanga, Camarines Sur and in St. Bernard, Southern Leyte and the promotion of Safe Schools Campaign among members of the CNDR.  One of the targets of CNDR is to encourage and tap companies to support the Safe Schools Campaign in the project sites assigned to Care NL.
