Alert level on Taal rose to Level 2

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) raised the alert level status of Taal Volcano from Alert Level 1 to Alert Level 2. This was after 32 high frequency volcanic earthquakes were detected on from June 7 to June 8. Also, the temperature on the main crater of the lake increased to 34°C, 2° higher than measurement on May 11.
The Batangas Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council advised at least 6,000 villagers in the towns of Talisay, San Nicolas, Agoncilla, and Laurel, surrounding the volcano island, to voluntarily evacuate the area. According to reports, Taal Volcano has remained on alert level 1 since November 23, 2005.
